In a high-pressure, negative and overwhelming world, sometimes all we need is a good laugh to get us through. Good news, there is no shortage of gut-busting hilarity online if you just know where to look. Dark humor, also referred to as ‘black humor’ is often misunderstood. Too often we are given the impression that there’s ‘something wrong with us’ as if we are twisted in some damaged and dangerous way. However, studies show that a darker humor requires a higher intellect, revealing just how intelligent you actually are.
Making light of illness, death and the vulnerable, these jokes may also highlight some of society’s biggest challenges or areas of our lives that we really should address (if we weren’t so busy laughing at it). It is this humor that the comic artists of the daily comic Cyanide & Happiness love so much, and I have to say, they have a knack for it!
The team of Dave McElfatrick, Kris Wilson and Rob DenBleyker have been bringing their humor to the world since 2005, and they have certainly seen some well-deserved success! Recognizing the following they were building with their comics, they released the first Cyanide & Happiness animated shorts on YouTube back in 2009. With over 11 million followers on Facebook, their comics reach people around the globe, giving us an undeniable reason to laugh (even if we feel a little guilty about finding them so funny).
